The lovely thing about juicing is that one can throw pretty much everything into the juicer: fruit, veg, greens… or a combination of all. Whatever you’ve got at home and feel like today. A glass of fresh juice is incredibly energizing and has long since replaced my morning coffee crave.

We usually juice more in the summer than winter months, due to the variety of fresh fruit and vegetables available as well as just the temperatures outside. In winter, I go for a cup of warm tea more often.

One of the secret ingredients I love to add when I do make juice though, is fresh ginger. Ginger gives your juice another extra kick and works well in red as well as green juices of all kind.

Enjoy my ginger-beet juice recipe below and let us know what you and your family think of it!

You think “Avocado Chocolate Pudding” sounds gross? Wait until you’ve tried it… I promise you would never guess this sneaky ingredient in one of our favourite chocolate desserts!

Yes, I admit, I could eat avocados in pretty much everything, in every form or shape… From enjoying a good helping on my toast for lunch, through making salads even more delicious and even topping pizza with a few slices of raw avo goodness.

Avocados, high in unsaturated, healthy fats, are a versatile addition to our daily diet and I love to come up with new ways of including them in savoury as well as sweet dishes.

As this recipe combines two of my food loves – avocado AND raw chocolate – it is certainly one of my favourite ones and has been secretly dished up to many friends and family members at dinner parties in our house.

My mother will laugh when seeing this recipe… Even though I eat pretty much everything, was never a picky eater and have always been keen and open to try out new things, I used to ‘strongly dislike’ zucchini. In whatever form or shape.

However, taste develops and changes – something I’ve noticed many times in my life already.

And though I can’t say I’m in love with zucchini now, I’ve come to like them and use them more and more often in my own cooking in combination with other veg and ingredients.

Whether you like or dislike zucchini, this recipe certainly is a winner for everyone! The crispy combination of spices, spring onions, zucchini and feta cheese make for a tasty and light lunch or dinner that even your kids or other family members who aren’t keen on veg will enjoy!

See for yourselves and let me know how it went!

My husband and I used to buy various breakfast-‘muesli’ options every week: ready made muesli mix, wheat-bix, cornflakes and more…

Even though we were trying to stay on the healthy side of things, we struggled with sinus issues and finding a muesli that was affordable and yummy, yet free of additives, preservatives, sugar and the like.

As we couldn’t get Graeme’s sinus problems (that appeared every single morning after breakfast) under control, I started a little experiment with him, trying to find a home-made muesli option that was nourishing, delicious and hopefully didn’t cause any of his sinus issues.

We didn’t identify any particular allergies or sensitivities (except maybe towards added sugars, vegetable oils, additives and preservatives?!) but the results of the experiment spoke for themselves: a) We got rid of all sinus problems, and b) we came up with one of our now all-time favourite breakfasts, delicious, loved by young and old, easy to make, adaptable, inquired about by colleagues, friends and family, nourishing and filling – my home-made roasted granola.
